Procrastination

Procrastination is an interesting beast. Lumbering, slow, sometimes dim witted. I've found that I can fight procrastination with itself. By pitting multiple activities for which I feel resistance against each other, I make the less uncomfortable option a great getaway from the most uncomfortable option.

Does that make sense? What am I procrastinating about now?

Updating my resume... I realize that I have too much emotional attachment to words and activities from years ago. Other people don't need that detail. I have moved forward, and my resume should tell the story of that movement. I need another place to house the outdated words. I need to expand on the whirlwind of the last few years. Leadership untold.

So I'm also procrastinating about stepping forward more fully as a professional. It's so comfortable being a wall flower. Offering suggestions for others to pick up and implement. How will it feel when people know my work? Expect more? When and where will I unplug to find peace, emptiness, lull?

So I'm doing what I do best. Moving furniture. More like knick knacks now. The antique lace, mom's geneaology work, board games, all moving around to more ideal places in the house. My focus now is to build out my space with a loving touch, with an intention of the activities I want to engage in.

Contents may shift around a bit. The important thing now is to carve out the space and functions.

When I walk around, I feel a bit more grounded. It's good to see "Recipes" from my peripheral vision as I type, written on a manilla folder, housing family favorites within my hand's reach. It reminds me that I will be cooking Christmas cookies in a few more weekends. Tins and tins to ship cross country.

Ah... I am procrastinating about sleep now too. I'm worried lately that I will wake up and toss and turn about work. I need to get my systems in place to counteract the stress. Like procrastination, I need one puzzle to get my mind off another.

Okay... I think it's time to call it a day. I hope you have a great rest-of-week, and weekend, ahead.
