On Work

Good morning! It's Monday, another start to the work week.

I adore knowing how things work, seeing how decisions are made, projects completed. The rush and bustle. Those who interject, those who lead. Moments of reflection.

I love to be a part of the gears, moving work from one side of my desk to the other, engaging online, typing, talking, interacting. Listening, watching, the expressions of others. Their hands as they talk.

The stooped shoulders, arrogant walks, creased brows, big smiles. A group discussing. You can tell from afar when it's serious, when it's not.

So I adore the people. The mission. The dedication. Problem solving. Being engaged. Being a part of something. Being where the action is. Knowing how things work.

The last 20 years I have spent in three locations -- military, academic, and industry. Hmm,. my most appreciated moments?

At CMTC, I was pressed into leading a team. One wanted to learn A/V work, and we steered the job to do so. Another was wrongly accused, and I defended her. I discovered courage that I didn't know I had.

At Georgia State, I was encouraged to envision what I wanted, not what I thought would be wanted, for our new building. We aimed high, persevered, achieved.

At Varian, I have been invited to team with others. I share problems and solutions, race the clock. I am learning a faith that no matter the challenge, just work it, all will be okay.

And so, it's 6:14. Time to wrap some sandwiches for the day, and juice for the week. Carrots and beets. I hope you have a great week ahead!
