![]() MontparnasseNext week I take the grand finale of business trips for the year -- to Buc, France. The word, Montparnasse is circling in my head, and I'm finding sleep more difficult. I will be travelling alone, and meeting others. The excitement of a final project roll out promises to stretch my wits thin. What to do? How to stay calm? It is time to test my words. Settle down, draw from within, allow the world to race, be still. Once quiet, respond. I'll let you know how it goes. In the interim, what's new on the art front? I bought a new laminator! This one is 12" wide, so I can laminate my 11" x 14" work. I'm excited to see how that turns out. In true Cindy fashion, I am letting that excitement stretch out long and thin as I postpone the first test. Instead I am working first with the 8" x 10" images I originally had in mind. I worry about how to make the thin plastic look good against the wall. Considering a collage approach, mixing in other elements, even 3D, to their arrangement. Oh my,... How many times have I invested hours into a scheme that I later teared down? But the urge to try new things continues. And when I sit down with the materials, my interest deepens. Similar to the pen, ink, and desk lamp -- the work of cutting, collating, feeding a collection of paper materials into the machine, feels like home. And it is this feeling of home that I am learning to trust. Melissa Gilbert, on her TED Talk, "Success, Failure and the Drive to Keep Creating," refers to it as a grounding force, a critical element in discerning your path. And so, that's it for this week. It will be Thanksgiving before we know it. I wish you the very best as we enter the fall season. Comments, Questions? Let me know what you think at cindy@pembrokedesigns.com. |
